112) Appraisal Apprenticeship
07/17/07
Dear Henry,
I've been away from the appraisal businness for almost two years now, but need to get back in due to financial difficulties. I have applied to many appraisal firms in and around the Scottsdale area, but none are willing to take me on, probably due to my current job as an airline pilot.
I am contemplating just jumping in myself. I have all of your books. What do you think?
Thanks,
Justin Rizor jmraa767@yahoo.com
Dear Justin,
Your letter did not make it clear if you are a trainee or have a license. If you are a trainee you have no choice but to seek employment with an appraiser or some other firm such as a lender where you can get the required two years experience.
If you have a license, you can go it alone. Maybe you could affiliate with a good real estate firm where you could get office support and referrals.
I started out on my own but in hindsight I would have been better off working first for and with another appraiser.
